GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practice. This is a globally recognised production standard. To comply with GMP, manufacturers must make their products under strict guidelines:

  • Raw materials must conform to documented specifications
  • Raw materials are batch referenced and fully traceable
  • Production methods are clearly documented and followed by fully trained staff
  • Products must be of a consistent quality
  • The process must be monitored closely, from start to finish, by Quality Control

Do all manufacturers have GMP?

No! Unfortunately far too few manufacturers comply with GMP standards. Many horse care products on the market are produced using very crude production methods and poorly documented procedures.

Quay Equestrian Ltd holds a manufacturer’s licence, issued by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency in the UK. At regular intervals (usually every 2 years) the facilities, equipment and staff are inspected to confirm that manufacturing and quality control meet the requirements of GMP, as defined by the World Health Organisation and the European Directive 91/356 EEC.

A key point is that every single product we make is produced to stringent GMP ‘medicinal’ standards. This exceeds any requirements by law. Yes, this has a cost, but we want our products to be the best and we want you to trust our products.

What does this mean for you and your horse?

There are 3 clear advantages of buying a product that is manufactured to GMP standards:

  1. You are guaranteed to receive a very high quality product
  2. You are guaranteed to receive a very high quality product consistently, time and time again
  3. You enjoy the safeguards that GMP provides, which is reassuring for you and your horse.
